Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 August 2026
(d)Effect is a camera app that applies real-time effects to photos and videos. This policy explains what it collects, why, and who it is shared with.
What we collect
Account information
If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive and store your email address, the sign-in provider you used, and a user ID. This is held in our authentication database (Supabase). If you use Sign in with Apple's "Hide My Email", we only ever see Apple's relay address.
You can use the app without signing in, though some actions prompt you to.
Photos, videos and camera
The camera feed is processed on your device to render effects. Captures are saved to your Photos library, into an album named "(d)Effect". The app reads that album so the in-app gallery can show your past shots.
None of this is transmitted anywhere. There is no server-side image processing, no cloud gallery, and no backup of your media by us.
Microphone
When you record a video, the app records audio to accompany it. iOS asks for microphone permission the first time you record; if you decline, videos are recorded silently. Photos never use the microphone.
Audio is written straight into the video file on your device, alongside the picture. Like your photos and videos, it is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
What we do not collect
- No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking. The app contains no analytics SDK.
- No advertising, ad identifiers (IDFA), or cross-app tracking.
- No location data.
- No contacts, calendar, or health data.
- No audio outside of video recording — nothing is captured in the background or while taking photos.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep you signed in between launches.
- To send one welcome email when you first create an account. We do not send marketing email.
- To answer you if you contact support.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. We use these providers to run the service:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication & account storage | Email, provider, user ID |
| Resend | Sending the welcome email | Email address |
| Apple / Google | Sign-in providers you choose | Handled under their own policies |
| Apple | App Store & any in-app purchases | We never see your payment details |
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists.
You can delete your account from inside the app — Gallery → Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account record and associated email. It cannot be undone.
Deleting your account does not remove photos or videos from your Photos library, because those were only ever stored on your device. You control them through the Photos app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Because the only data we hold is your account email, account deletion satisfies most of these directly. For anything else, contact us and we will respond.
Children
(d)Effect is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
Your sign-in session is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device. Data in transit to our authentication provider is encrypted with TLS. No system is perfectly secure, but the amount of personal data we hold is deliberately minimal.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
